Dr. Sridhar Gummadi joined ICBA in 2023 as Team Leader, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation. A senior agricultural systems modeler with over 12 years of experience in international agricultural research for development, his main expertise lies in the areas of seasonal climate forecasting, crop growth modeling, climate risk management, spatial analysis, sustainable agricultural systems, and carbon credits.
He previously led the Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) research program in Southeast Asia under the Agricultural Model Intercomparison and Improvement Project. He also supervised the development of CCAFS Regional Agricultural Forecasting Toolkit which provides information to subsistence farmers in Mali on seasonal yield estimation using probabilistic seasonal climate forecasts. Moreover, he conducted integrated assessments of climate change impacts to determine regional vulnerabilities, changes in comparative advantage, price effects, and potential adaptation strategies in the agricultural sector using multi-model simulations.
Prior to joining ICBA, he worked with UPL Sustainable Agricultural Solutions and the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI-CCAFS) as a scientist in climate change and adaptation. He also worked with the Innovation Systems for the Drylands led by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as part of a collaboration with CCAFS. He was also engaged by RMS Inc. to develop catastrophic insurance products and agricultural insurance products for India and Mozambique.
Dr. Sridhar Gummadi has published more than 30 journal articles, ten book chapters and one book.
He holds a PhD from the University of Reading, the UK, with a major in climate modeling.
