International and Interdisciplinary Conference on “Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture”

The global community works toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - among them SDG2, which aims to end hunger and malnutrition by 2030 -women can be the key agents of change in agriculture, nutrition and rural development. With better access to information, training, and technology, women can alter food production and consumption so that land and resources are used in a more sustainable way. Due to the importance of the topic and the need of urgent action to empower more women in agriculture, the Arab German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA) in collaboration with the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) are planning to organize an international conference on “Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture”. The Conference will be held from 25 to 27 June 2019 at ICBA in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The conference is organized by AGYA member Dr. Vanessa Lux (Ruhr-Universität Bochung, Germany) and AGYA alumna Dr. Henda Mahmoudi (International Center for Biosaline Agriculture, UAE) in collaboration with the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture in Dubai. This three-day intensive conference will consist of keynote speeches, three panel sessions with the following topics: 1) Women in Agriculture “Challenges and Opportunities”, 2) Visions on Women empowerment in Agriculture, 3) Farmers Success Stories: Voices from the field, and World Seminar café discussing several topics as well as round table discussions. Additionally, a design thinking workshop is included into the program to develop creative solution approaches on pressing problems of female farmers. In this workshop researches, policy makers, and practitioners from Arab countries, Germany and beyond are presenting research results and best practices as well as sharing their inspiring stories.
