ICBA hosts regional training on building community seed banks in sub-Saharan Africa

The International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), an agricultural research-for-development organization based in the UAE, is building the capacities of local stakeholders, including farmers and extension specialists, in seven sub-Saharan African countries to locally produce, preserve and distribute seeds of climate-resilient and salt-tolerant crops within communities as part of a major regional project.

  • During a high-level FAO delegation visit to the center’s head office in Dubai, the UAE, Dr. Tarifa Alzaabi, Director General of ICBA, and Dr. QU Dongyu, Director-General of FAO, emphasized the importance of bolstering collaboration to support countries in their goals to transform agrifood systems, and mitigate and adapt to climate change.

ICBA, FAO strengthen partnership to drive agrifood systems transformation

The International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have reaffirmed their joint efforts to accelerate transition to more sustainable and resilient agrifood systems.
  • The International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) hosted a Youth Circle event titled “Sustainable Agrifood Systems under Climate Change” today in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCaE) and the Federal Youth Authority of the UAE.

  • Dr. Tarifa Alzaabi, Director General of ICBA, said: “We must tap into the huge potential of the younger generation and engage them more actively in efforts towards sustainable development. This is why our center focuses a lot of efforts on providing young people with skills and opportunities to become future scientists, agripreneurs, and leaders through initiatives like ICBA YES. We want to empower them to grow into agents of change and contribute to sustainable agricultural development and innovation.”
