Dr. Tolera Senbeto Jiren is Post-Doctoral Fellow - Food Security at the Sustainable Natural Resources Management Section at ICBA. Before joining ICBA, he had worked as a research fellow and post-doctoral researcher at Leuphana University, Germany.
During his time at Leuphana University, he worked with an interdisciplinary team on various research projects on sustainability governance. He is an interdisciplinary environmental social science researcher with experience in multi-level governance of social and ecological systems. His past research focused on governance networks, including power, institution, and policy in an interdependent food-biodiversity system. He also led research on the application of futures methodologies and a transdisciplinary approach for envisioning the future of food security and biodiversity in different countries of the Global South.
He holds a B.Sc. in Rural Development and Agricultural Extension from Haramaya University, Ethiopia; an Erasmus Mundus joint master’s degree in Agricultural Development from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Tropical Forestry from Dresden University, Germany; and a Ph.D. in Social, Economic, and Political Sciences - Political Ecology from the Faculty of Sustainability, Leuphana University, Germany.
He has published over 20 research articles in peer-reviewed journals, books, and a book chapter.
