Research Associate-Irrigation Technology and Automation

Job Summary
To provide water management and sensor technology assistance for ICBA's automated irrigation control and data acquisition system
Job Responsibilities
  • Support the operation of a SCADA irrigation system under supervision of senior ICBA scientist
  • Support the maintenance and improvement of existing SCADA infrastructure 
  • Collect data routinely from dataloggers and databases as required for the monitoring of operation of the SCADA system based on pre-defined lists
  • Install, maintain and collect data from a variety of sensors to be used in groundwater, soil moisture and evaporation monitoring
  • Maintain an up-to-date overview of the software routines and algorithms that are used in the SCADA system and other automated data monitoring systems
  • Respond to requests on irrigation application (quantity and quality) from ICBA senior scientists 
  • Collect data manually to support the automated data for verification of the monitoring system as identified by senior ICBA scientists
  • Respond positively to any other reasonable request related to ICBA farm management for support from ICBA senior scientists as agreed by direct supervisor
  • Advice direct supervisor immediately about any issues arising in operation, maintenance and data recording related to SCADA and other automated data collection systems

Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
  • Bachelor degree in a related field
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of automation and sensor systems (hardware and software)
  • Ability to operate a CLEARSCADA driven operating system
  • Affinity with data management and database operation
  • Affinity with agricultural water management in arid and semi-arid areas
  • Ability to work independently

Desirable:
  • Knowledge of Arabic
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office
