Postdoctoral Position in Watershed Management and Water Quality / Environmental Modeling

Job Summary

We are looking for a Postdoctoral researcher to conduct a postdoctoral research in a Sida-funded project on Collaborative Program Euphrates and Tigris, particularly in terms of river basin management and water quality / environmental modeling.

The position is for one year and renewable based on performance and program needs

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for a Postdoctoral researcher to conduct a postdoctoral research in a Sida-funded project on Collaborative Program Euphrates and Tigris, particularly in terms of river basin management and water quality / environmental modeling. More specifically:

  1. The successful candidate will work with a group of scientists, and will be based at ICBA HQ in Dubai.

  2. Research will be in the area of application of hydrological /water quality / environmental models for river basin management. Data collection and sharing will be done through partner institutions in each country.

  3. Research could include application, development, modification of hydrological/ water quality / environmental models to investigate river(including wetlands and coastal zones) water quality and the impact of water usesand climate changes on water quality, particularly salinity.

  4. Research will include assessing the impact of reduce river flow or degraded water quality on agricultural yield and water productivity in salinized areas within the Euphrates and Tigris Basin. Remote sensing and GIS will be used in delineating and assessing these impacts.

  5. Research will include assessing the impact of reduce flow and reduced quality on Marshlands and coastal zones in collaboration with the American University of Beirut.

Assist ICBA team in reviewing scientific reports received from Implementing Partners and provide scientific input where needed.
Qualifications and Experience

  1. Applicants should have a doctoral degree in hydrology / hydrogeology / environmental sciences or a closely related field.

  2. Candidate isfluent in English, able to work independently and collaboratively with the team.

  3. Experience with hydrological / groundwater / environmental modeling, WEAP, GISand computer programming is desirable.
