A high-level delegation from the World Agriculture Forum (WAF) visited the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) to explore opportunities for collaboration and reinforce efforts in advancing sustainable agriculture and food security. The visit culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two organizations, marking a significant step toward developing innovative agricultural solutions for climate-affected regions. The MoU was signed by Dr. Tarifa Alzaabi, Director General of ICBA and newly appointed member of the WAF Board, and Dr. MJ Khan, Special Advisor to the Board Chairman of WAF, during an official ceremony held at ICBA’s headquarters in Dubai.

The agreement establishes a framework for cooperation in key areas aimed at addressing the challenges of agricultural sustainability in marginal and saline environments. Both organizations will collaborate on research and development initiatives focused on enhancing agricultural productivity through advanced technologies designed for arid and salt-affected regions. Capacity-building programs will be implemented to equip farmers, researchers, and agricultural professionals with essential skills for sustainable farming. Policy advocacy efforts will focus on supporting the development of agricultural policies that promote sustainability and food security, while knowledge-sharing initiatives will facilitate the exchange of research, best practices, and technological advancements to tackle global agricultural challenges.

The visit by the WAF delegation underscores the importance of global partnerships in addressing climate-related agricultural challenges. By leveraging ICBA’s expertise in biosaline agriculture and WAF’s international network, the MoU provides a foundation for transformative collaborations that will drive innovation, enhance resilience, and contribute to global food security. The partnership is expected to result in joint research projects, policy initiatives, and capacity-building programs that will support sustainable agricultural development and promote long-term solutions for food security challenges.
