On January 22, 2025, the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) hosted H.E. Antoine Delcourt, Ambassador of Belgium, and his delegation at its headquarters in Dubai. The visit served as a platform to explore opportunities for collaboration in agricultural research, innovation, and sustainable development.
The session opened with welcome remarks by Dr. Tarifa Alzaabi, ICBA’s Director General, and H.E. Antoine Delcourt, who highlighted the critical importance of partnerships in addressing global agricultural challenges. Dr. Alzaabi provided an insightful overview of ICBA’s groundbreaking work in biosaline agriculture, climate resilience, and food security.
Discussions centered on key areas, including follow-up on meetings with H.E. Dr. Al Dahak to advance cooperative research efforts, strategies to enhance local crop production in the UAE, and the introduction of Belgian research institutes and agri-tech companies. Both sides explored potential collaboration opportunities, particularly in agri-tech and biotechnology.
The visit concluded with a guided tour of ICBA’s research stations and soil museum, offering the delegation a closer look at ICBA’s innovative research and facilities. As a gesture of appreciation, Dr. Alzaabi presented H.E. the Ambassador with ICBA’s publication, “Agricultural Practices in the UAE: Heritage and Science.”
This visit underscored ICBA’s dedication to fostering international cooperation for sustainable agricultural solutions and strengthening the partnership between the UAE and Belgium.
