A high level meeting took place 23 January 2014, between Eng. Ahmad Saif Al Muhiri, Director of Public Parks and Horticulture Department (Ajman Municipality and Planning Department), and scientists from the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) . This meeting follows on from the conference on the use of treated wastewater in agriculture in the Arab region. Al Muhiri met at ICBA with the team that is currently working on the ‘Study on the Reuse of Biosolids in the Emirate of Ajman’ and discussed various cooperation possibilities between Ajman Municipality and ICBA based on the recommendations that came out of the conference.

Present at the meeting from ICBA was Dr. Abdullah Al Shankiti (Senior Soil Management Scientist), Dr. Khalil Ahmed Ammar (Water Resources Management Scientist), Dr. Nurul Akhand (Irrigation Management Scientist), Dr. Berhanu Degefa (Socio-Economic Scientist) and Dr. Shagufta Gill.

Commenting on this meeting, Dr. Al Shankiti said “the meeting was fruitful and it will strengthen our links with local partners in UAE. Ajman Municipality has shown interest in the reuse of treated wastewater. We discussed the possibility to work on developing a guideline for the use of treated wastewater for the Emirate of Ajman especially that ICBA has a vast experience in water and agriculture related policies in the UAE and the region.”
