Globally millions of tonnes of waste is generated every day and most of it ends up in the landfills or dumping sites, thus threatening the environment and life on earth. Recycling this waste for agricultural production would mean hitting many targets with one shot as the process not only improves soil health that leads to higher agricultural productivity, but also protects the environment from pollution.

The Euphrates and Tigris region is one of the world’s areas that are highly vulnerable to climate change. The riparian countries are interdependent and rely on water from the Euphrates–Tigris river system to maintain ecosystem goods and services, agriculture and energy production, municipal and industrial water supply, livelihoods and cultural resources. However, it is a system that suffers from salinity, land degradation and deteriorating marshlands and ecosystems.

Analysts reckon that per capita meat consumption is set to increase in the UAE thanks to population growth and high living standards. By some estimates, it is forecast to reach 79 kg by 2019, ranking the country 7th in the world – ahead of Ireland, Australasia and Australia.
