Climate and Water Modeling Scientist
Job Summary
Develop and apply advanced modeling techniques
for water balance, irrigation, hydrology, seasonal forecast and climate change
studies of the MENA region
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and validate the LIS water resources models to give outputs of water balance data
- Downscale general circulation model climate change data using WRF and use in water and crop modeling to understand the impacts of future conditions
- Develop and validate evapotranspiration modeling using SEBAL and/or ALEXI for water budget analysis and crop modeling
- Develop biophysical crop modeling to understand agricultural water use and productivity
- Develop high resolution atmospheric parameter data of current and future conditions for inputs to water and crop modeling
- Analyze extreme events, particularly droughts and their causes impacts particular on water resources and agricultural production
- Support the development of drought monitoring and early warning systems through modeling of key variables of the water cycle
- Prepare and deliver workshop material in any related area include on a) modeling and b) climate change c) droughts and early warning system
- Prepare project proposal for external funding agencies
- Prepare research papers to submit to peer-reviewed journals
- Prepare and deliver conference papers
- Additional activities to support ICBA’s mission in climate change and modeling adaptation work
Qualifications and Experience
- Master degree in related field
- At least 5 years’ working knowledge in climatology, land surface modeling; water resources monitoring (surface and groundwater)
- International work experience
- Fluency in written and spoken English
Other Skills and Competencies
- Working knowledge of statistics and database management
- Additional language skills, Arabic is desirable
- Supervisory experience
