Post-Doctoral fellow - Social Scientist

Job Summary

The person will support the development of the social sciences analysis at ICBA through development of a program of work related to one of the specializations below. As such, the person will work on a project related to their area of expertise and be expected to develop a program of work that adds value to the work of other scientists.

Job Responsibilities

The person will conduct literature reviews, design and implement surveys, analyze qualitative and/or quantitative data, generate policy recommendations, and produce academic papers and policy briefs. The person may be asked to present findings at regional and international meetings and conferences, as well as to stakeholder communities in the target countries. The position may involve regional and international travel.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Ph.D. in one of: Economics, Agricultural Economics,  Agri-Business, Finance, Resource or Environmental Economics, Sociology, Geography, Anthropology
  • 2 years’ experience in a research role
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English; Oral Arabic and/or French assets
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team on multiple tasks
  • Expertise in of one of the following areas (please indicate in covering letter):
    1. Gender and rural development
    2. Economics of agricultural production
    3. Valuation of water for agriculture
    4. Vulnerability assessments, resilience, and adaptation to climate change in rural areas

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of qualitative and quantitative survey techniques and data analysis;
  • Working knowledge of optimization models; agent-based modeling; Bayesian analysis
  • Experience with impact assessments
