Field Evaluation of Salinity Tolerance among Large Collections of Buffel Grass (Cenchrus ciliaris) accessions

Objectives:

1. 1. Assess Buffel grass germplasm, including local landraces, for salt tolerance
2. 2. Evaluate the selected accessions for forage yield and quality under field conditions
3. 3. Multiply and distribute seed among NARS in WANA region

Date of Planting: 2005

Experimental Design: Field plantation according to a planting density of 4 plants per linear meter. The plots are laid out in strips where each genotype is grown on 2 rows of 4 meters.

Treatments/Variables: 40 entries with 3 salinity levels (8, 16 and 24 dS/m)
