Soil salinity is seen as a major threat to the land resources of the GCC countries. Methods are available to either slow down or reverse this process completely. In order to achieve this, it is essential to scientifically diagnose the problem to prepare cost-effective salinity alleviation measures. Without adequate information, mitigation measures cannot be applied. This project therefore relates to salinity diagnostics using conventional and modern methods (remote sensing) using spectroscopy measurements of saline landscapes in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.
Map soil properties and salinity in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates for sustainable use of soil resources. Extrapolate results to other GCC countries and publish soil salinity map of the GCC countries.
